Talk about a casting change being hidden. I know that Kristen Johnson has been brought on to be in charge of the nurses, but I thought that Susan would still be around as head of the ER and was simply not in the first couple of episodes of the season. But nope, she has left the show! Was this even hinted at anywhere? Why didn't they have a big sendoff show for her?
I hate the way ER treats its characters sometimes.

Maybe the producers figured one sendoff show per character was enough, and that the one she got in 1996 was it.

That's what I heard, was that since this was the second time she left ER, she wasn't going to get any fanfare whatsoever.
But hey, it could be worse... She could've had a helicopter crash ontop of her!

IMO the height of the show (all 11 seasons now, right?) was when she left the first time. Her last walk through the ER was brilliant - several minutes of continuous uncut footage.

SO many people have just left this series that I think the Producers didn't want to admit the characters were in total flux. This series needs to consolidate and create some new real and likeable (or hated) characters, or it will becomre overtly bland and expire.

Still a good show with the revolving characters. I believe it makes it feel like a ral Hospital.

That article (the date is September 15) notes that Jennifer Garner's pregnancy "will be hidden" on Alias. I think we knew that wasn't true long before September 15.
I agree with SamMalone--I quit watching when she left the first time. She had great chemistry with Anthony Edwards. (And no joke about the helicopter crash, Charles.)
I don't understand why good actors keep joining ER--maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like the fast track to total obscurity. Has anyone's career been helped by joining it in the last five years? I guess it's work (and I bet it pays more than my $10 an hour...).

Does anyone know why the actress left? She didn't get as much storyline when she came back as I had thought she would. I think her leaving is another big loss for the show. I also think enough people were invested in her character that there should have been an episode about her leaving. If Noah Wyle had left and come back he would have had two good-bye shows.

Well, of course Noah would've gotten two goodbyes. He was the little squat of a character when he came on. Hell, after Anthony left, the show was about him. So, if Noah came back, he'd get two goodbyes.
Sherry though, had no real big plots when she came back aside from Anthony's departure. I honestly don't think that the producers expected her to stay longer than that. But, you know, I applaud her for leaving.
Susan Lewis had always been my favourite character since the show started, and it really made me sad that they'd just kinda drag her character through all the muck they were since she'd ran out of plots. I'd just rather go out while you still have interest. Like Sherry did the first time.
But, that's just me.

Well the reason she left was that she was moving on. "Im ready for new roles and challenges." quoted from Sherry Stringfield. Her character really wasnt being given the time of day as before her first departure. But they hadnt run out of stories for her, she was going to be given the tenure job and everything, and now with this whole Abby/Luka relationship she would have been there for a friend.
Noah Wyle basically ran the show I agree, but dont be so sure they would give his a second send off. He might have been a hit character, but now with so many other characters he wouldnt be the same carter. I personalyl liked him before he went off to Africa.
And Goran Visjnic, last on my list, has definetly ran out of plot ideas. Look at this, just so he can stay on the show they have him break up with Sam and start dating Abby which is going to lead to a whole new face of Abby we have never seen before and she is going to be like just about every female doctor who has LEFT the show. Think about it most of them have something in common. But other than that most of the older characters have run out of steam.

ER needs to be cancelled. Instead, they need to show re-runs of "Who's The Boss?"

I believe with that whole one goodbye party for each person. Sherry Stringfield's departure will probably be mentioned soon, doctors dont just disappear. In the TV guide it was mentioned that Susan left because she got transfered to another hospital. So maybe with the introduction of this new attending they are getting next thursday (10/20) the truth will be told.
I believe that there will be enough drama this season in the show without Susan getting killed by a helicopter, lets start the season off without a funeral.

I dont think so. I would never put an end to ER until Maura Tierney, Goran visjnic, and Laura Innes leave. After that I would rather see them end the show then get cancelled.
