The Boston Globe has a piece that speaks directly to a lot of us: there are so much TV to watch nowadays but so little time. So we have to be choosy and strategic about the shows we watch. The number of shows we're willing to surrender ourselves too and get involved in.
I watch a ton of television for TV Squad, but I watch a lot of television in general anyway. This year there's so much on (and often at the same time - damn you network execs!) that I had to take a deep breath and say to myself, "OK, that looks good, but I just can't watch it." So I've decided not to watch E-Ring or Commander-in-Chief (I watch The West Wing and that's enough political/military drama for me right now). I've decided to watch Martha's Apprentice but not Donald's (that wasn't hard to decide, actually). I'm watching Alias and Survivor on Thurs at 8, so I'm skipping getting involved in Everybody Hates Chris (which pains me). I don't want to get involved with Criminal Minds (another serial killer investigation show? Eh), and Reunion just seems like a lot of characters/plots/years to keep inside my head with everything else. And after watching the first two eps of Invasion, I've decided to put my energies into the other alien shows, Threshold and Surface (though who knows if the latter even are alien-related or not).
Basically, I can't wait for some of these shows to be cancelled so I don't have to worry about them anymore. Heh.
So what have you made a decision not to watch this season? Any new shows that look promising to you but you just can't make the time for them? Any old shows you've given up on?

Shows that I will watch for sure:
- Threshold (Fantastic show!)
- Battlestar Galactica (Could this show BE any better! Stupid hiatus...)
- Stargate: Atlantis (The original flavor gives me snore since RDA left so it's Atlantis for me now)
- Law & Order: SVU (Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni... need I say more?)
- Grey's Anatomy
- Prison Break (this show is going to kill me with the cliffhangers and plot twists but I don't care. I.love.it. Shallow viewing mixed with smart plot and action. Must see it)
- Family Guy (cracks me up)
- House (quirky med shows are the thing... realistic? Who the hell cares)
- Lost (how can I not watch this. It's like, mandatory)
- Veronica Mars (LoVe, baby, LoVe all the way)
- Desperate Housewives (It's just such a guilty pleasure)
- CSI: Original Flavor (Because I'm sticking around until they write a good episode for Sara Sidle... I know, it's going to be a while)
- My Name Is Earl (funniest new show!)
- Crossing Jordan (It's awesome!)
Old shows I've given up on:
- OC (I hung in there last season, to give it a go since season 1 was good, but I'm not that loyal. I say, sayonara!)
- West Wing (no. just... no. Last season finale was promising after a crappy, crappy season, but now, just, no)
- Smallville (Clarke and Lana, again?! They need to quit with that *hit and then maybe I'll start watching it again)
New shows that give me snore:
- Invasion (jesus, could this show be any more boring?)
- Out of Practice (Stocard Channing is the shiznit, but that show is just such a snore giver, lesbians or no. I'm thinking where Paula Marshall goes, I won't go... she seems to be the grim reeper of tv shows)
- Twins (Why is this show not cancelled?! If it is, thank you lord!)
- Bones (Snorefest! Here's a hint, David Boreanas: You're not funny! Scripted one liners with a bad partner choice just don't do it for me)
- Kitchen Confidential (Just not zingy enough. Doesn't have that WOW factor)
- Supernatural (Snore-ing. Snoring cast, snoring stories and just snoring)
Jesus I watch a lot of TV.

I also decided to give up on Invasion. I'm thinking of dumping Alias because I'm pissed about them dumping Michael Vartan, but I'll probably stay around to see Victor Garber kick some ass.

Tracy, I actually feel just the opposite way about Alias. Now that Vaughn's dead, I might stick around ;) But to each its own I guess.

If the tempo does not pick up on Invasion this next episode, I'm dumping it. Plodding is not suspense.
Threshold, bah. Same with Surface. Yawn. I wish my TiVo had a button that you could designate "ignore" to a program and it gets reported back to the content creators/distributors. 3 Thumbs Down to an entire channel, like UPN.
I like the cast on Bones, so I'll stick it out for awhile and hopefully the kinks are ironed out.
I like Supernatural. I like the new Kolchak. Smallville looks like a total improvement over last season.
Can't wait for Galactica to come back. Love Nip/Tuck. Need more Shield and Rescue Me.
When can we get the new Doctor Who over here?

Season Passes I've cancelled:
* Survivor
* Apprentice Donald Trump
* Apprentice Martha Stewart
* CSI Miami
* NCIS
* Family Guy
* American Dad
* E-Ring
Season Passes I've kept:
* ER
* Lost
* Desperate Housewives
* My Name is Earl
* King of the Hill
* The Simpsons
* Over There
* Austin City Limits
The best of the lot is definitely Desperate Housewives.
My wife has season passes for the 3 Law & Order variations, but she hasn't watched any of them yet. She also has season passes of:
* Invasion
* Threshold
* Surface
* Night Stalker
* Medium
Her top 2 would be Medium and Invasion.

I'm a certifiable scifi nut.
Threshold = Sphere(micheal Crichton)
Surface = 20,000 Leagues (Jules Verne)
Now which one has the better originating material?
Surface is the only scifi show that even approaches Battlestar Galactica. All the other ones have premises that read like a treatment from writers who want the network to buy enough episodes to get them syndication money.
