Lots of people were upset when TechTV got taken over by G4, which decided to ditch shows like The Screen Savers in favor of more gaming related content by revamping it into Attack of the Show. Obviously the bigwigs at G4 had no idea that gaming nerds pretty much equates to computer-related hardware/software nerds, so getting rid of techie shows like TSS was a sucky move. At least I thought so. And now, G4 is going to be re-airing old episodes of The Man Show starting October 10th at 10 P.M. What the heck? Are they trying to be another SpikeTV or something? The show's funny at times, I'll admit, but for G4? I just don't get it.[via Cynopsis]

G4 is going straight to hell, and they are headed there on greased rails. I am so happy that most of the people I learned from on ZDTV and TechTV are still doing tech journalism. Paul Allen ought to be burned at the stake for selling TechTV to Comcast and letting them kill it.

When AOTS announced "Vanilla Ice" as the new host, I was in the midst of reaching for the remote to delete my season pass when I realized it was a joke. I'll give them one more chance to see who the new host is, then likely stop watching. Without a DVR, the show, the channel is basically unwatchable. Niche channels all end up like this, in order to survive, they abandon their any unique content in favor of cheap generalized programming. Look at what has happened to MTV, VH1, Bravo, etc...
Anyone taking bets on when G4 will start airing reality shows?

Unbelievable. Running reruns of a show that was lame when it was on Comedy Central. It will get old after maybe two weeks. I watched it once when it ran on CC and have no reason or desire to watch it on G4. Just bring back the tech stuff. That's what the people want, for crying out loud.

Last week the president of G4 left (resigned/fired). He was the guy who basically convinced Comcast to start the network. So it seems that the COmcast folks aren't happy with the network, so they seem to be turning their back on tech and even on gaming, so it probalby wouldn't be too far off to say that they are turning into a new SpikeTV.

G4 made me die a little inside when they started airing "Video Game Vixens", "The Whip Set", "G-phoria", "Fastlane", and now "The Man Show"? I think it's all because Comcast doesn't really understand gamers and what we want. For example, if a gamer wants to watch scantily clad women they know where to find them (i.e. the internet). What gamers want from TV is more shows about gaming. Hey, how about instead of showing "Video Game Vixens" we have a special about new graphics cards, and instead of "The Man Show" how about a show about... oh... I don't know... say video games and/or technology?

HELLO? G4? ANYONE OUT THERE?
you lost your audience cuz you killed off all the tech. aots is okay, but it was far better when it was TSS. xplay marathons are about as fun to watch as ... well nothing, everyone's watching something else cuz you've dumbed any remnant of techtv down into a bunch of cheesy video game review shows. only thing fun about video games is playing them.
if you want to appeal to an audience try to capture the millions of people who waste away their days on slashdot.org soaking up any bit of tech content they can get their hands on, the people killing off webservers by downloading week-end reviews of tech news sites like digg.com (diggnation), the people eagerly awaiting new episodes of systm that may not even necessarily pertain to anything their interested in...but waiting for them nonetheless to get their tech fix for the day.
it might not be the largest audience in the world but by providing something similar to what techtv once was you stand to gain one of the most loyal audiences you can possibly find, and that audience grows larger everyday.

Considering G4 removed any shows that required an IQ of above 7 this makes perfect sense doesn't it?
I can hear the talk in the boardroom at G4 whilst they bandy about ideas to bump up sagging ratings:
"Hey! I just had an absolute brainstorm! How about we re-air the Man Show? It doesn't require any brains cells and provides minor wanking material for the demographic we are after!"
"I love that idea!
"Me too!"
"Count me in JR"
"Hey.......I have an idea too. How about we have some shows about computer technology that teach viewers how to use certain apps and programs? We could have a show called "Photoshopping with Bert Monroy" or "Linux and You" and perhaps "The Video Guy"? We would appeal to viewers that tune into G4 expecting that kind of content AND we'd be equipping people with skills they may not otherwise obtain! How about that?"
"Absurd.......you have 5 minutes to clean out your desk. I've never heard of such a thing. People wanting to learn? Ha!!! ROFLMAO!!! .........er......what exactly DOES 'ROFLMAO' mean again?"

Yes, I hate what G4 has done to TTV, yes, most of the new shows... suck, to say the least. That said, they do still have shows I like, Anime Unleashed still has some good stuff every now and again, and Braniac is addicting.
The man show... I'm glad I'm not paying for this station, then I would have to kill myself

The sad thing about G4 is its SAD, absolutely SAD. Its pathetic. They have no clue what their demographic wants. I wish all the execs at G4 would be forced to watch their line up for 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. Nothing else, thats what they do when they come into work and stay late watching it. Maybe after they see the garbage, they'll realize maybe they screwed up a bit.
Icon, Xplay and AoTS (its weak but its barely dooable) are about all they have left now. DUMP the other garbage. Start from scratch and figure out what worked for Tech TV and add it in.
Drifting, WTF? Its crap, put that crap on Speed TV, not G4.

Basically they're aiming for the lowest common denominator, which is apparently a human adolescent male of subpar intelligence. It's going from bad to worse as they're now showing reruns of other networks' shows, and I guess that's less expensive for the powers that be to do. I doubt a reality series is far behind. As it now stands, AotS is roughly the only thing watchable, aside from Icons (will that be gone soon as well, in favor of, hmmm, another failed Fox series?).
Isn't the average gamer now well into their 20's? Apparently G4 doesn't get this, because they seem to be aiming at viewers too young to have ever been with a real woman. I hope they see the error of their ways at some point. I don't mind them trying to bring in geeks from other folds, but at this point they look like the geek who's trying so hard to be cool, that they just look really, REALLY stupid.
Oh, and here's one more vote for Nar...

Why waste money on "The Man Show" reruns when they could just air the repeats of their own (actually, TechTV's) show "Unscrewed with Martin Sargent"? Gawd knows, with *Search Sperts* that show was far funnier and more racy than the Man Show ever was. But then that would mean G4 admitting that they were stupid in cancelling the show in the first place. At least Fox can admit to a cancellation mistake...as witnessed by the resurrection of "Family Guy".
Way to go, G4 chuckleheads. The only thing that's watchable on your network is Call for Help 2.0, and you have no hand in its production since that's all done up in Canada by Roger's (G4)TechTV Canada channel.
Want to save your network and channel? Then rename it TechTV and kill off most of your shows.
Keep X-Play (TechTV original), Icons, Anime Unleashed (TechTV), and Call for Help 2.0. Kill off G4TV, Cheat, Filter, Arena, Electric Playground, AOTS, and Judgment Day, not to mention "Barb Wire Biscuit" (who the hell named that? fire 'em) and "The Whip Set". But hold onto some of the female talent from those cancelled shows and re-assign them to new and resurrected properties. Keep the female hosts of Filter, Cheat, and Tina Wood of G4TV. Why? Because the existing viewers as well as all the TechTV viewers you chased away like to look at attractive women on their television screens.
Next, bring back The Screen Savers and Unscrewed. I'm open to other programming suggestions, but those are my two pet interests.
