The first part of this show was packed with filler all leading us to one question, who is right for this band out of our three remaining choices: theater god Mig, angsty Elvis impersonator J.D. or the intense and screamy Marty. Mig sings "Bohemian Rhapsody" which seems an odd choice for someone trying to outrun his Queen past. His performance has a very stage show feel to it. J.D. sings "You Can't Always Get What You Want." It's pretty amazing to look at his earlier performances and realizes how much he has learned to control himself over the last few weeks. Marty does "Wish You Were Here" again even though we recently saw him do this song. Marty seems eager to prove he's not the screamer anymore. The band decides and sends Mig home (so much for the migspiracy theory). Next the band gets up on stage to play with Marty and J.D. Marty sings "Don't Change" and although I love the way the boy looks he keeps enunciating strangely and his voice just has this fragility to it. Also he can't help himself from going mad conductor in the end. J.D. sings "What You Need" and his impersonator chops help him sound much more like Michael Hutchence than Marty does. The band chooses J.D. after making him wait for a few moments in which he nearly wets himself. He's so genuinely happy that it's hard not to be happy for him as he collaspes on the ground and weeps. Marty, for his part, is gracious in defeat and the newly reformed INXS takes the stage for the first time. I'm still not sure I'm interested in seeing or listening to the reformed INXS but at least the person who wanted the job the most got it.

This INXS-fan-of-old is disappointed; I was certain the remaining band members would (perhaps under Navarro's counsel) "see through" J.D. Fourtoon (sic).
I am ultimately willing to accept the bands' decision insofar as they have the sole responsibility of choosing a new member; this cannot be a simple task. However, I can't imagine myself extending said willingness to supporting INXS in their new venture (e.g. buying their upcoming album or attending a concert) while feeling that they chose a complete hack for a frontman.
Perhaps the music itself will soften my heart...

Yes, I was "surprised" that they opt to let JD be the "frontman". Hopefully they won't have to babysit too much. Mig was still my favorite

The general consensus among the crew over on my blog was "We want to keep hearing more of Marty and Mig, whether they win or not. If JD wins it'll be nice for INXS, he's probably the best fit, but we won't really care, we'll just wonder when Marty's CD (with or without the Lovehammers) comes out." I feel the same way about Jordis -- fine, she wasn't right for the band, but I'd rather hear her sing than JD. JD was always very Neil Diamond to me.
Sounds very much like Bo Bice and Clay Aiken, if I can get all American Idol for a minute. People will continue to follow their favorite, regardless of who "won".

I have to assume, though, that the guys from INXS got to see more of the 'real' (ie, not edited for reality TV) JD... so he may not be as much of a jerk as he seems... I guess we'll find out after the tour... if he's still around! :)

I agree with TVGenius (4). As I mentioned elsewhere, I can't imagine the band not interacting with the singers beyond what we see on TV. That said, I think they made the right choice for them--if not for the Marty/Mig fans out there. I have to say that when the series began I only half-watched because I really didn't care about the result. INXS/Hutchence has a special place in my musical memories that doesn't need to be updated or replaced. Toward the end, though, I did get interested in the three personalities and how they might play off INXS. For what it's worth then, good luck to INXS/JD.

All I can say is that I hope "Dirty Vegas" does not get released as a single, because if I never hear it again, I would be quite pleased.

I'm glad Marty didn't get picked, he needs his own band! "Trees" was an exceptionally catchy tune, the best thing to come out of Rockstar INXS IMO! I'm also glad JD got picked 'cause quite frankly, what else would he do? Nothing. Mig should've been the one but he's a success in his own right; I'd be more inclined to catch one of his theater productions than an INXS concert starring JD. That's for sure.
JD got what he deserved, to wither away into obscurity with a tired old band nobody really cares about anymore (except the 8 of us here who even bothered to metion that we watched the show). Cheers.

I like J.D. I hated him, at first and then he seemed just crazy enough for me to care about him.
Still, that is not the point...for this little show the winner is kinda the loser. INXS is not band that anyone outside their current and loyal fan base care about or will be presuaded to start caring about with a new, pretty and sometimes crazy frontman.
All of expressed your disappointed at J.D. winning WHILE stating clearly that you wouldn't have renewed interest in the band no matter.
Jordis was truly wonderful, if a little green. Marty could easily step out on his own merit...but he is not or should not be dance/pop/rock, he is dark and should stay dark. Mig is hot, but kind of prissy at the same time and really seems very much suited for the theatrics of the whole thing...whether I would like to listen to him sing his own songs, depends on whether they are good songs or not.
Marty really won the thing, he will most likely open for INXS on tour, with his own material and his own sound and he will have become an actual rock star. J.D. is just the pretty face distracting from a band with not much talent.

I was shocked INXS picked JD and at first very upset, I really wanted Marty to win. I think it is best for MArty to come out with his own band. I could see him in a new generation "Alice in Chains ". I want to know if he has an album coming out and who has signed him.

I couldn't agree less with sugar.
I didn't expect much from Rockstar INXS and was so pleasantly surprised. J.D. is NOT just a pretty face. J.D.'s voice (along with Jordis') was one that made me look up, take notice and start to really pay attention and the tv played in the background. I believe he is the best fit for the band because of (1) his passion for INXS music, (2) the intensity with which he brings all music to the stage and (3) his own creativity.
Is he a nice guy? Who knows? (Who cares?) But it was pretty obvious that some pretty creative editing was taking place, and I'm not dumb enough to believe everything reality television tries to feed me.
Best of luck to all of the contestants. Several are on my "look for and buy" list, including Marty -- the less is more version -- and Jordis.
Regards,
Meredith, who never paid attention to INXS in the past, but is really interested in the band NOW!

There's a common thread running through a lot of these comments: Mr. Jason Dean Bennington is not the most talented vocalist of the Rockstar crop, but he IS the best fit for INXS, and the others are so talented that they will do well no matter what (all hail Martin Casey)! God Bless INXS - I don't think they're a tired old Rock band that nobody cares about: they're HOT property again!! Eat their dust people! Andrew and the team are BACK! Welcome J.D....see ya on the road!

How could INXS be recording their album all summer without knowing the winner? Male or female? What keys should the songs be in? What range? Interesting...reality?

For "Dolly": INXS recorded each song in two keys - a male key and a female key. So, for example, since J.D. won, he will sing each song in a lower register, but Susie had won, she would have sung each song in the higher register. It would simply been a matter of copy the drums to another protools track and re-do the backing music in the different key. They're clever these boys - covering their A**!!

I tuned in after the first two episodes and was hooked. At that time, I thought JD had "the look" and sounded the most like Michael Hutchence. Ty was cool too. I remember INXS from when I was a young teen, and I guess seeing how old THEY have gotten made me wince a little (and realize just how old I have gotten); when JD won, I realized that these "old guys" don't really want to be challenged by a more current Marty or a mature Mig. They wanted someone to "channel" Michael (read: impersonate him) on their back catalog--plain and simple. While I rooted for Mig and was enchanted with Marty's spooky and intense frontman appeal, I am not at all surprised that the band went the safe route of hiring the idol-worhiping JD.
What's up with Kirk Pengilly, anyway? Talk about prissy.

Denty,
This is a great response and I HOPE it's true. But who are you and how do you know this? And two different keys might not have covered all the bases. For instance, Deanna would not have sung in the same range that Susie would have sung. And J.D. would not have sung in the same range as Marty, for example. Different voices with different vocal ranges.

One more thing...so what you are saying, Denty, is INXS can keep their drum tracks for any singer. Okay, that's cool. But what about that dynamite guitar part? Base part? Organ? Piano? Whatever. The drums are just one element of the music and not the entire track. So what have they been doing all summer? Recording just drums?

Dolly, the Drum tracks can stay because they are non-melodic. They must replace the other tracks because they ARE melodic. But you're right, Marty for example sang better in the female key in the studio, and Deanna may have sung better in a male (lower) key - who knows? Best to you! (P.S. I can't say who I am, but I've been in the industry since 1988...)

I began watching Rockstar INXS even though I really don't like or watch Reality TV, but I became hooked nevertheless even though I agree that INXS is a tired old band that noone really cares about anymore. I listened to them as a teen in the 80's, but had no interest after that. I felt Marty Casey was a perfect fit for the band though with his moderen (alternative) sounding voice! I was disappointed when J.D. won. Over the weeks that the show aired I was sure the "Elvis" Impersonator couldn't possibly win. I really don't know what they were thinking! I would have bought their future albums if they had picked Marty, but now I will never buy an INXS album! In reading some of the other comments posted here, I am starting to agree that Marty was the true winner and the true Rockstar. He is better off that he didn't win, who would want to be the lead for a washed up band anyway! Good luck Marty! I will be looking for Marty's upcoming albums as I know he will be a big hit!

Ok people so INXS chose J.D. for the front man.No matter what anyone else thinks they must have seen something that was not obvious to us,thats the way it goes in the world of entertainment. I myself was hoping Mig would get the job because of his talent etc.....My advise is that if you enjoyed INXS before at least give the new version a chance before condeming them.
