If
you read my special Spoilers Anonymous last week, you already know now
that the leaked episode rundown was indeed accurate. I did read what was
posted, and you know what? It really didn't ruin a thing for me. I was
still held in suspense and shocked that what I read was the real deal,
finally revealing what's down in that hatch. And like many other
reveals with this show, one door is opened only to present us with a
whole room full of more doors, metaphorically speaking.
Did
anyone have their closed-captioning on to catch what Walt was
whispering in the woods? I rewound my Tivo several times to try to make
out what he says, and I can't make much sense of it. But that may just
be the point. I think his appearance in the woods really just showed
more of his strange "powers," and wasn't really him standing there. And
why didn't Sayid back up Shannon hearing the voices in the woods?
Helloooo... you heard the voices in the woods last season, dude. The writers already seem to have stepped things up a notch with the backstories of the characters. We see how Jack's past works in with how he's behaving on the island, and of course there are always plenty of "numbers" tidbits to follow (though admittedly, I didn't watch for them this time).
And of course, the reveal in the hatch. Holy crap! How the hell are they going to explain the huge coincidence that Jack actually knows Desmond? It's either a huge coincidence or he's actually been following him all this time, part of some greater master plan for the plane to go down right there on the spot. Anyone catch the old Apple ][e computer sitting down there, or am I just that much more of a geek than the rest of you?
I can not wait to see how this plays out. I love having a show on again where I simply can't wait to see what happens next. That's the new fall season for you. Oh God, am I in trouble when Veronica Mars starts up next week. Thank God for my dueling Tivos.

Don't feel bad about knowing it was an Apple ][, i knew it was too. i just want to know WHAT THE HECK is that place? When the music played i was thinking that it's like the underground of what Disney World would look like. Wouldn't that be funny if it really is? (You know the whole Disney/ABC thing) It sure does have that creepy old amusement park feel to it. Kind of like the episode of the Simpsons where they go to Itchy & Scratchy Land when they take Marge down to get Homer and Bart out of the detention area.

After reviewing the Walt scene on TiVo with the volume up, I'm pretty sure it was just nonsense syllables digitally altered; no actual content. But I'm sure there are obsessive fans trying to decrypt it even now...

Did anyone see a slight mistake on the show.
The hatch had QUARANTINE in black letters during the show and the same hatch had it in red letters during next weeks preview.
It could of also been another door but that doesn't seem possible.

Hey, come read my theories. No coincidences here. Desmond has the power to effect miracles, ergo, he's either Satan, God (the sneering violent kind) or some kind of master psychic nutcase.

It's late and I don't want to think. What was the thing down there that starts and ends with the same letter and has a synonym that starts and ends with two letters tthat are sequential?

Wait, is it "Desmond" and "man"? But does that fit in with the clue that it is something you see everyday? I guess man is something we see every day, but not "that man".

My position is that a "Jacob's Ladder Ending" is the only thing that can save Lost. I know that the writers/producers of Lost told the NYT that the people on Lost are "very much alive" (i.e. that they are not dead or dying a la Jacob's Ladder). But, either by intent or accident, everything on Lost points to Jacob's Ladder.
The appearance of that boy (Walt), wet in the woods mouthing unaudible words was "classic Twin Peaks". The only thing missing was the boy moving backwards like the dwarf in Twin Peaks (just noticed your link says the boy was speaking backwards and he did actually appear to be moving backwards).
Lost managed to maintain itself again and I applaud it. But, I really don't see how it can go any further with these silly hatches and silly mysteries upon silly mysteries. See my "Lost, Brazil and Jacob's Ladder" http://www.tempcity.com/bitchless/index.php?showtopic=608

well i agree that is getting kind of frustating ,to have something uncovered just to to have more questions asked. but i dont think the show has lost his touch. i think that is interesting and really cool ,but the theory of the survivors being dead is very realistic. but i think this season is gonna give us a different perspective of the crush and what let to the crush. i just hope they dont mess it up like they did with x files and twinn pikks

How is it frustrating that one door opens up more questions? This is a SERIES .. it's not a 2-hour movie. A great series continues to open up new directions, and as long as they are interesting that's all that matters.
I loved the first episode, here are a couple of tidbits.
The injection label had the "numbers" typed on it. I rewound and paused right on it, it showed the numbers as a perscription #, saying take daily. The question is what the hell is in it!
The First Desmond encounter was interesting after making it through the episode's end. First off he appears out of nowhere and then preaches that miracles are possible. He also states he's travelling around the world.
My initial thought is that he simply wasn't real in the first encounter but rather some type of higher power.
The interesting part is how the way he used his voice at the end it seemed as though he knew it was Jack and he was expecting him!
It will be interesting to see what happens at the start of the show with them in the hatch.

According to my closed captioning, Walt's line was “whispers indistinctly”.

And I wonder whose backstory is next week? Locke's? Kate's? Or someone else?
I also noticed -- after it was over -- that we still know zilch about the raft people, not counting the vision of Walt. Maybe next week will be about them.
Hey, did Vincent reappear after Walt vanished again? Funny how the dog disappeared right as Walt was taken.
And did you notice that Walt was dripping wet when Shannon saw him?
I noticed the Apple II, but was more interested in the mainframe and the dot matrix printer. Exactly what was that guy printing out? Reports to be filed, or turned in??
This show is avoiding the Twin Peaks trap; Peaks would reveal more doors (questions) without opening the first ones. We never got any answers, just more pointless questions, piling on week after week ...

My local radio station figured out what Walt said, play it backwards. He says, "push the button, no buttons bad". Also the french woman on the show (Rousseau)has the same last name as an old french mathmetician that links everybody by the same sequence of numbers that Hurley is freaked out about. According to the old French mathmetician, those numbers link everyone, and everyone has a twin. Maybe they were all brought to this island and this is where their twin is???

One more thing, down the hatch there was a painting with numbers, if you add up the "cursed" numbers, they equal the number on the wall in the hatch. Also if you watch what the guy is typing on the computer in the hatch, you guessed it, he's typing the "cursed numbers" in it...

One thing no one seems to have commented on yet is the electro-magnet that jack finds initially once he goes down the hatch.
Ya know, the old rusted over cyndrical (know i spelled that wrong) barrels which could be old school batteries and his key on the necklace being pulled up from his chest.
Anyone think that might have caused the crash? :) Could also explain why Sayids compass didn't work in the first or second episode

A few things I noticed:
QUARANTINE: Is labled on the *inside* of the hatch, indicating that it is the *ISLAND* that is "infected," not the resident(s) of the hatch.
RUTHERFORD: The name of the dude Jack passed up to save Sarah. (I was surprised by the lack of drama in this choice -- maybe it's because the guy was older [57] or didn't appear to have the same extent of injuries that Sarah did? Is it perhaps ER policy to work on those with more "trauma" first?)
THE NUMBERS: Were indeed in the painting. I'm not sure what was viewable in SD 4x3 image, but in HD 16x9, I could see a 4, 8 and a 23. There was also a big 108 in the middle (4+8+15+16+23+42).
DESMOND: Is either able to leave the Hatch (fresh fruit; decor in the 70's meets jack in the 90's), or is not the original person put there.
HATCH: The "Control Room" that Jack goes into to avoid the light is very reminiscent of a similar room in THE FORBIDDEN PLANET.
WALT: Does indeed say "Push the buttons. No buttons are bad." http://www.foxmod.com/lost/lost.html
WALT (PART 2): What was Walt wet? He didn't get in the water (that we saw). I think perhaps he was projecting himself for Shannon to see, and wanted to show her that something happened to the raft.
A HUMOROUS ASIDE: When Boone died, and Locke was all pounding on the Hatch lid and crying. We now know that the light that came out was just Desmond hearing the pounding and basically coming out, all "Damn kids get off my lawn!"
INANE PREDICTION: Ethan was at one point in the hatch with Desmond, but escaped or was kicked out. The steriods/protein shakes gave him his incredible strength.
I totally dug the episode. It was great to see a younger Jack that was already burned out and see that his father was once not a complete *sshole. Totally dig this show, can't wait 'till next week.
