So let me get this straight: every week these two brothers are looking for their missing dad, and they not only encounter mysterious things every week, but classic mysterious things every week? The first week was The Woman In White, and this week it's the Wendigo. What's next, not a sea monster but the actual Loch Ness Monster? Not a vampire but the actual Dracula? Eh.
I won't say I'm bored with this show already. I liked the pilot, and the show has atmosphere to spare. It's just leaving me with an odd feeling because I can see where the following weeks will lead. Hopefully at some point - hopefully sometime very soon - they'll really jump into what happened to the brothers' dad, and not just a "we have his journal and we're following just one step behind him" thing where they have to stop for a couple of days and solve some mystery in the woods. (I was glad to see Sam actually ask his bro why they don't just leave and go look for their dad, but still...)
This episode was effective, I guess, even if it was a rehash of a couple of X-Files episodes set in the woods (during one of the commercial breaks there was a Pedigree dog food ad with voiceover by...David Duchovny!) mixed with more than a dash of Predator. But it had neat effects, and I could picture my nephews being scared shitless by some of the stuff that happened. But at the end, after a genuinely cool jolt when the monster was finally shown and jumped out at Sam, I sort of just shrugged (they killed the monster by...shooting it with a flare gun? Yawn.) The first episode I thought was going some place different. It still might get there, but it just seems that it's taking a detour along the way. I hope not.
Atmosphere and effects are great, but I want more. Let's really focus on the brothers' quest and get some more imaginative cases and I'll be on the couch every single Tuesday at 9.

I will say that I'm bored with this show already. The framework is there for something more, but I won't hold my breath waiting for it. I can't tell you how many people seem to be watching the show because "Jensen is hot". I had no idea that so many people were idiotically shallow.
How about watching because you'd like to find out what happened to the father. What kind of man did he become after his wife's death? How did he manage to raise his sons and hunt at the same time? What kind of relationship does he have with them? Sam didn't really seem to care that he was missing until his girlfriend died. Tonights episode didn't advance the father's story one bit.
Sadly, I think it'll become the worst of Buffy. I'm already tired of Dean having all the answers, and forget Gopher from "The Love Boat", we have a brand new purser. It's distracting watching Jensen purse his lips after every sentence. Is that suppose to be acting? Also, a little of the snarky attitude goes a long way. We get it; you're a cool guy who hunts evil. But hey, it's only 2 episodes. It could get better.

Here's a synopsis for weeks to come:
-older brother finds new lead on dad
-seems that dad was in pursuit of motw (monster of the week)
-brothers crack open dads book to read up on motw's weaknesses
-interview generic old dude who had a run in with motw in the far past
-kill motw after humourous, brotherly bickering
-exit shot with car driving off on dusty road with classic rock music playing in the background

I am an avid watcher of the show. I don't watch it just because the two actors are "eye candy." I'm sure there are more out there who do actually like the basis of the show. I for one do, and wouldn't care who was in it.

Actually, it was "a" Woman in White and "a" Wendigo. They listed off several Women in White that they knew of and in the Wendigo episode they talked of cultures all over the world haveing their own Wendigo varients. Complaining about them finding THE Woman in White and THE Wendigo is like complaining about them finding THE ghost and THE werewolf.
