When I got the sneak-peek at the first episode of the show, it did not include the second half of last night's two-hour premiere. While the first hour ended with a nice reveal, it left me wondering how the tone of the remainder of the season would play out. This episode helps answer those questions, though some of the excitement I had has tapered off just a bit.At the conclusion of the Pilot episode, I was left wondering why a talented architect would need a full set of blueprints "on-hand" to get around something he designed himself. We see through this episode that the tattoos he's sporting aren't just hallways and walls, but perhaps contain much more than one person could easily remember. Although, did I miss something with the whole bolt numbering thing? What was so special about that one particular bolt that couldn't be served via some other piece of metal? I guess you could argue that point all day long, that he knew it was a special soft metal or was the closest width for the allen wrench hole he was looking for.
Speaking of the allen wrench, which, as you've seen, is part of the episode title. If you know anything at all about tools, I think it was pretty obvious what his tattoo meant right away, even without knowing the episode title. Probably because I'm used to a person's name being spelled "Alan." I really hope the writers weren't thinking they were oh-so clever when they came up with that whole concept, because it just didn't work on me.
The whole race war portion of the episode wasn't really Oz-worthy, but the endgame did pay off a bit. Michael seems to piss off the wrong people while making some friends in the right places at the same time. Man, Michael better be damn sure his brother really is innocent after all he's going through so far.
In any case, I'm still intrigued by this show and the peeks at the episodes to come do look promising. Wentworth Miller is amazing in his role, which itself is enough reason to catch this show as it is.
Quote of the episode: "...Three!"
