Jen will have a better discussion of tonight's episode than I could offer, but I just watched the first just-under-eight minute long intro segment to the latest episode of Stargate SG-1, and, I just had to post the following: John Crichton (Ben Browder) and Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) are frellin' amazing in this show, too!I mean, sure, as Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell, Browder isn't fast-babbling as many pop-cultural references as he did on Farscape, and, as Vala, Claudia Black isn't quite as uptight as Aeryn Sun used to be, but their performances are very very similar to those characters. Stargate SG-1's new feel is rather Farscape-ish. All we need are a few muppets bouncing around the place having weird alien-sex to really complete the fusion of these two shows. Well, that and a really cool living space ship.
So, I want to know a few things from our wonderful TV Squad readership:
- Before this season, were you a Farscape fan, were you a Stargate SG-1 fan, or were you a fan of both?
- Do you like, love, or frelling hate this new quasi cross-over of the Farscape and Stargate universes?

We've watched both as long as they aired in Scifi. I would give up Stargate in a second, both of them, for farscape to come back. I half expect Browder to look at T'ealc and go "D'Argo!!!" or go talking to Pilot through the walls. I enjoy Stargate, My husband got me hooked into it, but I miss Farsape so much it hurts.
Just seeing Browder and Black on Stargate makes me sad.
I can't tell you how many times, even when farscape was still on, I said Fargate, Starscape or just switched names completly. It won't be getting any better soon.

I am as hardcore a Scaper as you can find. I once liked Stargate a fair bit, but stopped watching as it became clear the basic premise was being rapidly eroded and the scripts were dropping in quality. Watching last week's season opener strictly for Ben and Claudia, it was still shocking how far a once decent endeavor had fallen. The script was clunky and poorly designed; I honestly felt sorry for all the good actors trying heroically to make it seem viable.
Both Browder and Black are smart people as well as a couple of the finest actors around. I wish they'd done anything non-genre in order to build their careers and get the recognition they deserve, rather than trying to prop up this lifeless hulk.

I think that Mitchell and Vala are very far from John and Aeryn, and yet there is a zest and life to the eps that I think flows from their more free-style approach (read more emotional and thoughtful) to acting. It makes Michael Shanks and Chris Judge sit up and act. So, being a Farscape watcher who occasionally caught some Stargate because it was on, I have to say that Ben and Claudia light up what is a rather formulaic show.
But, isn't it neat that after two eps we are learning so much about Cameron Mitchell and Vala and the emotions they affect in others? I'm learning to like this.
Oh, and Ben Browder is definitely doing other things than just genre and Claudia is heading off to produce and star in a movie called "One" in England. So, I wouldn't feel sorry for their careers. I think being on Stargate is a smart move because they get noticed.

I am a big Farscape fan. I liked SG1 before it came to Sci-Fi. This seasons SG1 is a must watch for Browder and Black. RDA leaving the show is a bummer, but Ben will make it fun. Aside from Browder, I have no desire to watch SG1 anymore. Its not as good as it used to be.
If Sci-Fi channel had any intelligent life in their management, Farscape would still be on the air instead of the steady flow of crappy movies, ie: Frankenfish, Hammerhead Shark Frenzy and Mansquito. What kind of moron cancels a great show like Farscape yet allows this total F-movie garbage to air on PAY tv. They should pay us for sitting through that dren.

I love the Stargate movie, and love the Stargate SG-1.
I also love Farscape.
The two series are both science fiction -- but they are not the same. Each is unique.
I'm enjoying seeing Cameron Mitchell on SG1. Vala's character improved this episode -- she's not so strident and annoying as the first two episodes she was in ("Prometheus Unbound" and "Avalon - Part One"), and hopefully she'll be even LESS annoying next episode.
Stargate SG-1 is my favorite TV series. I'm looking forward to this season.

After watching last night, trying to get over the need to throw something at the TV screaming “Give Me More Farscape” so I would have at least one science fiction show space related show to watch. I feel like they are pull any science fiction related face (note doctor) they can find to try and keep this show going. I feel like Ben has this leash around him holding him back for being the great character actor he can be to keep him from being John and Claude is being push to be too emotions to make her not Aeryn. It is like they try not to look at each for certain scenes. Especially for Claude (I have no idea character’s name is) death seen. I guess the next question is who from the Star Trek franchise will show up to pull in those fans. God Forbid Scifi station looses Star Gate and have to come up with original idea. That's right! They did have great Scifi Friday original show line-up and they canceled all those, bought out SG, remade Tremors and BG.

Browder is creating a character that is so different from John Crichton that John Crichton seems like an alien. If you can't see it then you are not paying attention. I love Farscape and could not care less about Stargate but will watch it for Browder. He has made a career move that he thinks is right for him so that's all that matters as far as his career goes. I don't really care what other actors show up on SG as long as the stories are interesting and they stop talking so damn much and getting into some action.

Well...whew! At last, Ben Browder and Claudia Black have returned to Scifi. What a relief! Now I will watch Stargate again. I hope they let them write and or direct some episodes. It could only spice up tired old Stargate. They better keep Ms. Black as a regular as she's my hero. I couldn't agree more about the terrible movies on Saturday Nite. What about new Fireflys on that Saturday wasteland?

Well, I have to say that there is little about Vala that's comparable to Aeryn except that they both look stellar in black leather and they both have long hair.
Seriously, I think Claudia Black's done an excellent job in my Farscape-obsessed brain of distancing herself from Aeryn Sun. And let me add that Aeryn Sun is my absolutely favorite character on any TV show ever, so for CB to make me not think "Aeryn" while I watch SG1 is quite an accomplishment.
Mitchell is closer to Crichton but that's a function of their time in history too, I think. Both are 30 something American pilots with a quest for knowledge. So I do see more similarities between the characters. Browder's more subdued and serious overall.
Either way, it's great to see both of them on TV again. Is this the closest SciFi is ever going to come to admitting they made a mistake in canceling Farscape?
I wasn't an SG1 fan till Browder/Black and am really enjoying the ride.
I'm a Farsscape fanatic, though.

I only watched the last season of farscape...and could see precisely why it was canned.
i've watched stargate since the beginning, and while i freely admit it's been going steadily downhill since season 6, i am heartily sick and tired of 'farscape actors save the show'.
Stargate's been on the air a lot longer than farscape. Ben will fit in, as long as the show runners stop cramming how great he is in our faces. Vala is silly pandering to the fanboys (time will tell if she becomes more than a silly cliche) and quite frankly, i think their trying to turn stargate into farscape as little more than a last ditch effort to drag the show out longer and preserve thier jobs.
What scifi should have let them do was to end stargate and started this new incarnation fresh and clean, rather than trying to fool all us 'unintelligent viewers with issues' into thinking that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Fargate leaves me cold...and i think they'll have a rude awakening in a few months when skiffy starts to pimp thier own BSG and they drop StarFarGateScape like a hot rock. Anyone willing to take the bet that scifi cancels stargte AFTER they write the slam bang cliff hanger....to once again toy with and manipulate the fans of a show????

I'm a fan of SG-1. I've never seen Farscape except for one episode and five minutes of another which I couldn't stand to watch. I have a strong aversion to muppets and puppets and such things, for one thing.
I'm not happy that RDA/Jack left the show, but I understand why, and I'm glad the show is going to continue. My main reason for watching is for Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), and really that's the only thing that keeps me watching. Michael Shanks is such a fantastic actor and the character of Daniel is my favorite character from any TV show or movie or book--ever. He's fascinating to watch, multi-dimensional, full of depth and emotion. He's definitely what moves the stories along on the show, even if he's not the main character in a particular story.
I'm not thrilled by the new cast additions. I dislike the character of Vala, though I disliked her less when she was a bit toned down in Avalon Part 2. I like Daniel with her, though one of the things I like is that he's not taken in by her at all. If that changes, I'll not be very happy.
Surprisingly, while I think it was not a necessary cast addition, I actually like New Guy. I don't really care about him and I wish they'd stop with the stupid flashbacks already, but he's a likable character. The main thing I see him bringing to the show is bringing out a new and different side to the characters we already know and love. I love his interaction with Daniel so far, and I somewhat like his interaction with Teal'c. As for the character on his own? I'm not interested in him at all.
I absolutely love Beau Bridges as General Landry, too. I was really surprised that I liked him so much, but I find him to be the most intriguing of the new characters. (I also loved Don S. Davis, so I miss him, of course.)
I really can't say if SG-1 is becoming more like Farscape since I don't know Farscape enough, but I think SG-1 is just becoming more like it was in the earlier seasons, and I'm glad for that. Seasons 1 & 2 were the best seasons, with season 3 being pretty close.

I should clarify: Vala reminds me of Aeryn in all the Crichton's fantasy / psychotropic dream episodes of Farscape; not so much of plain-jane Aeryn.
I don't see the drastic difference between Browder on Farscape and Browder on Stargate. It's basically the same character, just toned down for Stargate. Like Farscape was Crichton on drugs / drunk and Stargate is a sober, older and wiser Crichton.

I wasn't a fan of Farscape and moving two of the main characters from it to Stargate is a strange move maybe they had to pay them money for Farscape cancel and thought , hey, why not moving them to Stargate... which is weird because seriously, Stargate was a better show fan wise. I've loved it since season one, it has changed a lot since the early times, thats true, but they try to keep it real (even if sometimes they don't succeed). The show is endless and thats the part I dislike, they could have tried to put and end with Jack and Sam getting married and finnishing the acient plot with Daniel going up to the sky again and Teal'c freeing the slaves but I guess $$ is a good reason to keep it going :)

I liked SG1, it was a good steady show with a strong acting cast. It hummed along steadily. It was also a show that I could do somehting else while watching...
and not really miss any serious plot points.
I LOVED Farscape. It took chances, it gave you a marvelous rollercoaster ride of plot twists and challenged the mind. The writers didn't lead the viwing audience along by the nose or talk down to them, explaining every detail. It also didn't bog you down in techno babble. But you could NOT divert your attention for a second or you would miss something.
I'm enjoying the cross over very much. Ben Browder is a brilliant actor and it's so nice to see Claudia Black get a chance to be something other than a repressed warrior. She shines! Beau Bridges is wonderful as General Landry.
I do miss RDA. He had a wry comic brilliance that added a lot. But I also think the new cast will help us move forward. I wish Mr. Anderson a wonderful time with his daughter and applaude his priorities.

Since knowing that Ben and Claudia were going to be on Stargate I've been trying to watch SG1 reruns. I swear I've tried! But the show seems so slowwwww and boringgggg to me that I could never finish watching an entire episode. Even though it did have a very likable cast, the storylines were so not good, basic, and boring!
So when Stargate season 9 premiered I was not expecting to really like it, but I had to watch it just to see Ben & Claudia again together :-)
To my surprise I liked eps 1 and 2, both were enjoyable and all the cast seem to have great chemistry. I'd like more Ben & Claudia interaction but Claudia and Michael Shanks are also very cute together so I am enjoying them too.
I stil think all the Merlin/sword storyline is not good at all, but I like the interaction among the characters so I will give it more time to improve their storylines....hoepfully!
