Seeing snow fall during a reality show just makes me feel as if it is even more out of step. The challenges on tonight's episode, to recreate The Cotton Club and Studio 54, are a bit more intriguing than last week's pimp my Navigator episode but wouldn't it be better if the "designers" were allowed to choose how they wanted to do the two clubs rather than just researching the past? This week James and Felix are in charge and pick teams. Crazy Jeff gets last picked. The invitation is to a party in the Hamptons (in the winter). Crazy Jeff and Princess and James and Jessica pick up the invitations. On the Cotton Club team, Liz seems to be dividing the team into factions. The Studio 54 team works together much more smoothly. Little Tommy seems quite certain that his knowledge of the Studio 54 era will help his team but when he gets paired with St. Louis Julie trouble starts because she is unused to spending time with gay people. At the party in the Hamptons, Alex Garland evaluates the four party guests. He seems to find fault with everyone except James. He thinks Jeff should go home to his family, Princess is too raw, and Jessica is pretty and dim. And then it happens, Princess suddenly turns into Lil Kim, spinning some sort of heavily-bleeped rap/monologue. It was the stereotypical example of what not to do among strangers. At the competition, The Cotton Club seems to be more heavily researched whereas the Studio 54 idea looks more like 1970s night at a high school dance.
In the style pit, Tommy H actually grows a spine and gives Princess a lecture for her impromptu Hamptons performance. In the pit, the Cotton Club team says that Liz didn't contribute the most and a small argument breaks out (funny how Liz always has trouble sharing credit). On the other team, Julie says that she had trouble dealing with Little Tommy because of the gay issue. Studio 54 loses the competition and the laidback Chris gets sent home for not using his research to create the best experience. Then Tommy H says that he is upset from what he heard (Julie's homophobia?) and stalks away.
Next Week: Could it be an actual design competition?

Another Tommy Hilfiger's The Cut, another hour frittered away. By now I was hoping to actually see these people design something, rather than just decorate a room. Copying an era gone by really isn't that difficult as long as you have the money and access to props.
As for Julie, some may see her as a homophobe. I truly don't think she is, I believe she is like many other well kept women. Her life revolves around her husband, her kids, the club and the only people she deals with on a regular basis are people just like her. Most likely upper income, white "professional type" people. If she has trouble dealing with alternate lifestyles she better start packing her bags because the fashion world is no place for her.
I now know a fate worse than death...being trapped at a cocktail party with Princess and Jeff. Shudders run up my spine at the thought.

I just think Mr. H is creepy looking. I'm so disappointed in knowing what he looks like now. Shopping won't be the same after watching this show.
I had a funny thought the other day. What if, on one of these reality shows they actually get people that are good at what they do? They would have to make them do stuff that isn't related to the task they got them for.
Is it just me or do the purposely get people who they know are going to suck. Cause that's why we watch, isn't it? Who wants to see gifted designers when you can get "personalities" that say they can design.
We love to see others suck at something, it makes us feel better about ourselves.
The best reality show I've seen was the BBC's The Office. Bring back the actors damn it! I can see people who suck at what they do at work, in my car, in my family, etc.

Since this is suppose to be a reality show about finding the someone we might actually buy clothing from under the hilfiger label, shouldn't we actually see them designing some clothing or something dealing with the fashion industry? What does designing a vehicle for a rapper or recreating a night club have to do with? Base on what I see so far, I wouldn't buy anything with their name on it.
