I don't know what other people think, but I think David Spade is funny as hell. I haven't seen any of his movies, I'm going by his SNL days, Just Shoot Me, 8 Simple Rules, and his guest appearances and commercials. Sure, a lot of his performances are the same type of character, but nobody does that type of character better than Spade, and I laugh out loud every time I see the guy.
He's getting his own satire show on Comedy Central, The Showbiz Show With David Spade, and it sounds a lot like the Weekend Update showbiz reports he used to do on SNL. I'm looking forward to this. If it can live up to the what Comedy Central spokesman Steve Albini said ("It will do for Hollywood and the entertainment media what The Daily Show does for news and politics"), then it could be must-see stuff.

I would not be so harsh as 5 weeks. I think Spade has a lot to live up to, but I think he can do it. This week has been more material for his show than most, but it seems that not only is more and more stuff happening in the world of the stars, but more and more people are starting to care. There has always been a culture wanting shows like "Entertainment Tonight" and magazines like "People," but it seems today that celeb news is becoming main stream news. Who remembers a time when something like "Beniffer" would have been so wildly reported outside of a rag? Who remembers a time when legal issues of the stars' has been so tightly followed? Most importantly, who remembers a day when people so clamored for reality shows staring "stars?"
People's interests in celebs is peaking these days. At the same time, people like me are caring less and less but still watching more and more out of either simple horrified curiosity, or need for conversation topics with the more pedestrian of my friends. A show like this, if it can do what it is being billed to do, will supply celeb news with an irreverent side that will fulfill a lot of people's curiosity and do it in a way that is palatable and fun.

It's not clear whether it's going to be a weekly or daily program, because there is enough material in the Entertainment Mediae (intentional misspelling in order to look cool) to do a good weekly half-hour or a boring daily one...
And whoever is responsible for the designation "TomKat" for the Couple of the Millennium of the Week should be shot, hung, beheaded, dismembered and eaten by a fire ants.
