This week's issue of Newsweek features a funny piece by Conan O'Brien on what the future holds for television. His predictions include:
- Screens will double in size every 18 months, making them so large families will have to watch TV from outside their homes.
- TiVos will have the ability to arrange marriages between like-minded viewers.
- There will be a Survivor:Hackensack.
- The lack of available talk-show guests will lead to violence.
My prediction for television's future is that Conan will make people forget Jay Leno when he becomes the Tonight Show host in 2009.

Just because the man is funnier, more skilled and shorter than Jay Leno doesn't mean we're all too likely to forget Jay...
I mean, what kind of society would we be if we let a chin like his be forgotten so quickly.
My prediction: The couch on Conan's show in 2009 will be a standing shrine to Jay's gigantic chin.
Who's with me?

I know that Jay has his many faults but my prediction is that Conan's humor will not translate well to the earlier timeslot. Jay knows how to tell a joke and no one except Johnny will
beat him in the opening monolog. Conan is a far better interviewer than Jay but his opening routine is tiresome, childish and at times strange. I ti painful to see each night, Dave is by far the smartest of these three but you always get the impression that he cant wait to leave. Jay on the other hand has many faults and rough edges yet his saving grace is he loves to work , he loves his fans and audience, and he seem genuinely happy with his life.

Jay's no Johnny, and he doesn't have to be. I love Jay. But Conan is a Letterman. Meaning, he's inventive, innovative and hysterically funny. College kids love Conan. Those kids will be nine-to-fivers by the time Conan takes over the Tonight Show. His loyal viewers will follow him. Personally, I think Conan's one of the funniest people on TV. But I also think South Park is brilliant satire. So, consider the source. ;)

In the year two thousand........
The Chin will be replaced by the forehead. I just hope he gets Mr. T to be his sidekick.

I think Conan's greatest strength (or one of many) is his willingness and ability to change. He's pretty ruthless about phasing out popular characters (Pimpbot anyone?) and keeping the show moving -- even if some of the replacement bits aren't as funny, it's worth it when you get stuff like the Walker Texas Ranger lever.
I'm really nervous that he'll tone it down when he goes to 11:30. But I'm also optimistic, because he's survived replacing Dave, he survived Smigel leaving as head writer, and he's survived Andy leaving. Come on Coney, you can do it!

conan is so much different than leno, and so much funnier. leno tailored his style to fit the tonight show audience. people who grew up watching carson and have now neared the end of there days. people who can get a good laugh out of a jugling seal and are easily offended by controversial jokes. people whom cant handle conans kindof off the wall, witty style. basically, old people. well conan hates old people so he should take care of that. dont get me wrong, leno is a nice guy but he laughs at his jokes twice as long as the audience.
the only reason lenos monologues are funny is because its the tonight show! the best writers are hired and are paid the most and they come out with the most material! and conan actually is the smartest of the three. okay, he graduated magna cum lauda from harvard. and the transition might be hard for conan, and his audience, but a whole new audience can experience him in 2005. the old people will either die off or get over it and theyll start going to bed at 5:00 pm like they should.
and theres no way conan can fail because if hes jokes bomb, he always has his looks to back him up! you have to admit that man is mysteriously sexy!
