After last week's Gregg ambush it seemed likely that his double consonant sweetie Jenn would be next to get the axe. After all, Katie and Ian have an alliance and Caryn and Tom now are bonded. The reward challenge is for a Corvette and the challenge involves rowing out to getting five mileage tags and then assembling them in the proper order. Ian wins and takes Tom along which really frosts Katie and doesn't really thrill Tom since his plan was to split up the ladies so they couldn't gang up on them. Of course the women collude, Katie spills all and Jenn seems startled to know that there was an alliance there at all (all that Gregg time must have had her in a fog). When the boys get back Caryn immediately confronts them and asks for loyalty. Ian indicates he still hasn't decided if Caryn or Katie is going which makes Tom upset. Ian takes Katie for a little walk and things get weepy quickly. Lots of mea culpas later they seem to have reached a truce. Scrambling Tom tries to bully everyone into playing his way and nice guy Ian starts to realize that this is "Survivor, not Parcheesi." The challenge involves a memory puzzle and an agility challenge. This is an excellent challenge for late in the game since it involves both brain power and physical ability. Tom takes a few hard spills but emerges victorious. So now it comes down to Katie. Will she side with the ladies or the men? Jeff does his usual Probst probe at tribal council and Caryn, as usual tells too much. This opens everything up and a slander free-for-all begins. The much vaunted women's alliance falls flat and Caryn goes home. How set was it before the council or did her own big mouth seal her fate at the last minute?

It always strikes me as odd when, on Survivor, there is such a fear of the women ganging up on the men. Sure, there is precedent for it (in the last one) but it seems like every game, there is talk about it. I am not sure what to make of it, but it is an interesting phenomenon.
That said, I think either Ian is playing everyone expertly, or else he is setting himself up for a big fall by trusting Katie too much. But the real x-factor now is going to be Jenn-- without Gregg, she is sort of of just floating there, but unlike Tom, she isn't exactly a physical threat for any physical immunity challenges.
I expect that next week Tom will be going after her to counter Ian and Katie, but if Ian and Katie can patch things up they're our final two, I think (immunities aside).

Have you ever gone out on a date? If yes then it is always women ganging up on men. Imagine the intimacy they must share on that island and I don't just mean the nookie. Katie and Jenn as women will control everything. All because strength is no longer a huge factor instead it is about being manipulative. Don't belive me just ask Caryn.

Last night's episode confirmed why I don't like Survivor--I had forgotten. All of the women knew that Tom & Ian were in it to win, yet they decided to vote Caryn off instead of maintaining their majority.
I just don't get this show. The men are stronger competitors, and Tom is the most respected person out there. Why do they continue to keep him there?

Gordy - speaking as a woman here, I believe the women at this point are thinking with their "feelings" rather than their brains. They should have picked off whichever man didn't win the immunity. They are not thinking smart - but since I don't particularly like any of the women left, doesn't matter to me.
For a change, I would like to see 2 hard players at the final, rather than a player and one who flew in under the radar. In most of the other shows the real player got snubbed (Coby and Rob come to mind) while the mild mannered, didn't hack anyone off person slides in for the 1 mil.

Tom would have been an easy choice to vote off .. but Ian wasn't so easy for Katie. If Ian had immunity then Tom was gone, but it makes no sense for her to axe Ian. Right now it's a numbers game, and Ian and Katie will take each other to the "2" if either of them has that option. Tom and Jenn are both wildcards, and Caryn was loyal to Tom.. so if she voted off Ian, Katie's chances were 1 in 4 to get to the Final Two - with no real chance to win any challenge. But now she's increased her odds greatly, because Ian can win challenges. I actuall think all 3 of the other people want to take Katie to the final 2. For Ian he has too to save any face, Tom is a slam dunk over Katie because she's won zippo, and Jenn's best chance may be against Katie for the same reason.
