You may have noticed that list over on the right side of the page. It's our new Top Contributors list! Here's how it works: post a great comment and we'll give you a star. Get the highest number of stars in the month of May, and you win a new iPod shuffle (or $100 in cold hard cash via PayPal, whichever you prefer)! Second place gets $50!
Another great feature: your name will be linked to your web site, if you have one, so maybe we can help increase your traffic too. We're building a community here at TV Squad, so keep those posts a-comin! And thanks for visiting.

Looks like Underdog, B, and Loren Javier are on their way to some quick cash!
Are you going to give two or three stars for people who do reviews of shows?

Yup, readers can get even more stars if they post a review of a show! We'll have our first show to review up later this week, so stay tuned...

I don't really need any incentive to visit TV Squad, but if you insist! :)

I'm never going turn down cold hard cash, but like R-Bro said, I don't need an incentive to come here. I really like this place - the writers and the contributors - and it's very nice of TV Squad to do this. A little competition is good for the soul, but it seems that this contest may slow the website down (boo-boo lip). And Jason, the month's not over yet. I don't win things. I have to work my butt off and then some, and some more, before I earn anything. But I do love to write reviews! Whoever wins - best of luck!

Auh, but Tim, sometimes "relevance" puts some folks to sleep. I like subjects that branch out into complete irrelevance, which is the spice of life!

Like this one time, at band camp, when I saw this squirrel, and it was like, gathering acorns into a big pile, and then another squirrel came along and started to steal the acorns. Man, that was ever irrelevant!

B, it's not number of posts, it's the quality of posts. We'll give you a star (or two) in a post that's particularly good. Most posts in the month of May wins the iPod or the cash!

I have written up a more lengthy review at my weblog, but here is an excerpt:
"This is an awesome idea. The only thing that I would tweak would be to allow the other readers to rate the comments. This way, it becomes a community activity and less of a burden on the weblogsinc bloggers and also allows the community to feel ownership over the community.
Nevertheless, I love the aggregated list of top commenters. I love the idea of rewarding people with traffic for getting engaged in a discussion. When I used to comment incessantly on Judith's social software weblog, I did it partially because I wanted Judith's attention. I figured commenting (just like blogging) was a form of building relationships and conducting public relations. Although, that may not be weblogsinc's intentions, this enables startups and other bloggers to get the attention of the well trafficked bloggers in the weblogsinc network."

Well, first, how cool?
Second, I haven't the foggiest idea what I might have said that earned me my stars. I had no idea anyone even read my long winded comments much less thought them star-worthy. I feel all special now.
Third, to echo other comments in this post, I don't need a reason to read or comment on TVSquad. I'm naturally loquacious and addicted to certain aspects of TV.
Fourth (see, long winded), I hope this doesn't become a ridiculous competition that spawns trolls seeking iPods. That said, I prefer keeping the star awarding ability in the editor's hands.
Lastly, as for prizes, I'd much prefer being able to post a comment without having to verify it through email. :)
Thanks again.

Folks with two or more stars will *not* have to validate by email shortly... that was one of the main reasons we added this feature.

Man, I post from a couple of places, with the same name. I wonder if those posts are grouped?
Doesn't matter really, I'd post anyway--relevance be damned.

So how does the recording of the stars work, for the little logo beside our names? Does it count how many of the staff members have given us a star for that post, or total stars, or something else entirely? Is there a way to check our total if we are not in the top 20?
I think this is a very cool idea, by the way.

Dave: if you make a comment that we like, we give you a star (in very rare instances, two). Only one staffer will give you a star for one post. I don't think there's a way to see beyond the top 20, but it's something we're working on.

Gordy: do you mean you post from different places or you post to different blogs? If you use the name Gordy on your TV Squad posts we'll keep track of the total for you.
