Deadwood: Amalgamation and Capital

Deadwood
With only three episodes of Deadwood left I'd expect to see a lot more action than we have in most episodes. Clearly the creators are content enough in their future (and future seasons of Deadwood) that they can devote a considerable chunk of the show to character development. Not that there's anything wrong with that. The most notable was Bullock and his stepson William. Of course that could also just be to set-up the overly dramatic end of the episode.

I'll admit I didn't expect to see William get clocked by a horse. I thought the dirt-covered Steve was up to no good and that would b the dramatic ending of the episode. But the wild horse and unconscious boy was much more climatic. It also tied together real life in the west with the horse castration and how prominent the animals were to life in the 19th century.

The much hyped showdown between Mrs. Garret and Mrs. Bullock was weak. Will these two ever come to blows? I did like the moment were young William corrected Trixie's math. It was also interesting to hear her not give away her last name and instead uttered “the whore” when making her first deposit into the bank. Could it be her last name will come into play at some point of the show?
