No
it's not the latest Fear Factor copycat show that has us shivering at
our desk. It's the fact that ET has landed the rights to air the Mary
Kay Letourneau wedding. Yes, the teacher that fell in love with a
student and went to jail for him is finally settling down with said
student, now of age and father of her two children. Isn't that sweet?
No, it's really not. It's really disturbing and just shows
Entertainment Tonight's lame attempt at ratings. I prefer my girl
Nancy O'Dell and Access Hollywood myself.

Yes, he is a grown-up now so 'legally' it is alright for the two to marry...
but, what precident is this? Now every little schoolgirl (or boy) crush on a teacher that the teacher takes advantage of will have a little more acceptability... "Look, they still got to live happily ever after so why can't we?" asks the 12 year old girl to her 35 year old math teacher.
I just think all this publicity - broadcast marriage and fancy primetime interviews - makes the criminal act that this woman did seem like it meant nothing. She still gets her cake and gets to eat it too.
Maybe a few years have gone by but it is NOT okay for a teacher to sleep with her student and this celebritizing of their marriage seems to make it so.
You know, if Villi had been a girl andthe teacher been a man there would be WAY more people thinking this is outrageous. I wonder how the 2 of them will feel when their 10 year old daughter comes home with a 40 year old pervert. Will they mind? Will they broadcast the wedding?
Maybe we'll have to ask them in a few years if they minded being such an example to young people -- Go ahead, be child-raped by a teacher who should know better -- you get to have your fancy wedding on tv like we did! :)

Why isn't the FCC putting a stop to this? This is right up there with Janet Jackson's ugly nipple show.

No one ever said it was okay for a teacher and a young student to have a relationship. In fact, if you watch the interviews, Mary encourages her children and others to save sex for marriage. They know what they did was wrong and they've both suffered greatly for it. They're not asking for anyone to believe otherwise. They just want people to accept the relationship now that Vili is old enough to make his own decisions.

Yeah, they can say that but the very fact that the wedding is being broatcast my the network is like saying it IS okay to the little girl with a crush that is being raped by her teacher. They are left with the belief that even though jail was served they can still have the fantasy that they imagine.
Let them get married, but don't try to brainwash a bunch of young people that they can and will eventually have happily ever after... because then they become blind to the fact that they are being assulted by someone in authority over them.

The very premise of their relationship is that Vili was not raped. No one is encouraging young girls to accept rape. 13 year old boys can't be compared to 13 year old girls sexually. Boys mature faster in that area. They just want to prove to the world that everyone else was wrong: they really did love each other. That doesn't mean that Mary or Vili wants young girls to be taken advantage of by their teachers. The media attention is going to be there either way. Vili was hassled by the press all the time. They are simply profitting from what would have happened any way. Don't you think the tabloids would have been fighting to get pictures of the wedding any way? It's not their fault that the media is drawn to them, they're just profitting from it.

With all that hoopla over the wedding, I wonder if "love" will stay long after menopause hits and her breasts falls to her knees. He IS all of 22. What does he know about love? He got bonked by his 12 grade teacher in the midst of a mid life crisis. Now she's ensured he stay by her side. After all, to desert her after her jail sentence and having his two kids would seem callous. It's certainly better than the ol' ball and chain, don't you think. Poor boy.
