There are so many revelations tonight
that I'd hate to be a newcomer to the Desperate Housewives party. By
now, the show has gotten so complex and set in its own intrigue that
any newbies will be scared away. While some may say that will harm
potential viewers, others will see that this kind of plot twisting
just builds loyalty among the faithful. What I like best about the show is that with so many balls being juggled, the writers drop some one week and pick them up again down the line. Take young Andrew Van De Camp. How long ago did Susan catch him making out with another boy in a swimming pool? And just now his mother is finding out the truth? But it still has just as much impact now, for other reasons, than it did the first time in the pool. That's good TV folks.
I won't even get into the excellent guest appearances by Bob Newhart and Lesley Ann Warren. Both will probably get Emmy nods for ten minutes of screen time. But it was still a memorable outing by two personalities that are perfect for this series. Mike's line after meeting Susan's mom was humorous too.
The only troublesome spot for me is the twisted relationship of Gabrielle and Carlos. The seriousness of the abuse, double crossing and adultery is actually a bit too heavy for this drama/soap. Burn me if you want, but I liked it better when Carlos' wrath was more reputation than reality.
